History of Science and Religion The history of opposition between science and religion has been steady for about half of a century. As early as the 1500's, science and religion have been antagonistic forces working against each other. The purpose of this paper is to give and provide detailed information about the reason why Craven Books was having issues on the implementation of the new information technology system which should help to improve the performance of the business. In 1970ââ¬â¢s, the busi ness began to be known in the market place by buying comics in bulk from both the American publishers and the second hand comic market and sell this on their customers in the United Kingdom by using a mail order catalogue. This had helped the company to grow in the market place and be known by many other customers. Because of this the company had been able to encounter growth both in profit and in the number of their regular customers.In this regard, the company decided to use a new information system as part of their business strategy. In 1990ââ¬â¢s, this plan has been initiated as Craven Books invest in new integrated information systems that will include all business operations of the company, from ordering, to processing, accounting and warehousing. In addition, people who were relevant to the cause of this incident were being interviewed too and they also gave out their own opinion on why this disaster can happened and what preventions or actions should be made to cope and prevent the issues on the implementation of the new information technology system.As mentioned, due to the objective to have and efficient distribution system, the management of Craven Books has decided to create an IT system. At first, the new system was expected to and should provide great time, effort and savings for the company to achieved the companyââ¬â¢s objective but upon implementation of the new systems, the companyââ¬â¢s expectation has not been achieve and even worst, it weakens the competitiveness of the company and the competitive advantages that the Craven Bookstore built had been not stable. In the video, it shows the common or classic mistake that make by the small business which also make by Craven Books that lead to this failure. Through this report, the following are the reasons why the new system in Craven Books was a failure.1.) Unable to determine the suitable IT system One of the first reasons for the failure of the system is the over-ambitious of Craven Booksââ¬â¢ management that unable to determine the best IT system to use, to prepare a strategic plan before the implementation which lead to the result in choosing the IT system that is unfit to the company. Due to the reason that the company wants to be more competitive immediately, they pick the s ystem without even trying to identify whether the system really works or not. Furthermore, there wasnââ¬â¢t anyone is in charge of the systems to teach the employees to use the new system.2.) Rely too much on software consultants Another mistake was that Craven is relying too much on its software consultants, did not try to review or assess the given system to test its efficiency and effectiveness before it implemented. The consultantââ¬â¢s suggested Craven to go for an existing system because the implementation of customized system was a bad choice to achieve Cravenââ¬â¢s purpose or objective; itââ¬â¢s like putting a third wing on a jumbo jet as the thing was going so fast that the desire result wouldnââ¬â¢t be achieved. Besides that, the project will not employ a staff to monitor, so that when the system went wrong there was no one has to take responsibility on it.The company was giving choice on the standard package that provide the advantages of the low cost and t he another one is tailored solution which give the advantage to use the tailored solution that can modified the system that suit to the business but on the other side this method is more expensive than the standard package.3.) Disaster strikes After the implementation of the new system, Craven faced some disaster strikes, they lost most of their major or main customers and almost more than 60% of the staffs were being dismissed. Because of the failure in the new system, it brings many negative feedbacks to the company. This leads many issues that reduce the companyââ¬â¢s performance such as the conflict that happen in the actual situation with the result shown in the computer system.Despite that, the inaccurate of the weight device that was implant in the computer system always give wrong measurements and this problem had lost customers and created many angry customers due to the wrong orders were being deliver to the customers. The management level of Craven Books cannot decide and determine the appropriate system to the company because they were over-ambitious to improve their companyââ¬â¢s performance and competitiveness quickly.In the end, they didnââ¬â¢t develop a strategic plan before the implementation of the new system. Other than that, they also didnââ¬â¢t conduct any testing on the new system to identify whether the system really can help the company to reach their objectives. Furthermore, there wasnââ¬â¢t anyone is appointed to handle and in charge the systems to teach the user or employee the proper method to conduct the new system.Example case As for example, a similar case study has been chosen in order to compare and discuss with this issue . This shows that Craven Books wasnââ¬â¢t the only victim of the information technology disaster. The similar case that happened under the same reason as Craven Books is FoxMeyer Corp. during 90ââ¬â¢s.Due to the intense competition among competitors, FoxMeyer was in a great need of a solution that would have helped the company to achieve a complex supply chain decisions and improve the companyââ¬â¢s performance. During the early 90ââ¬â¢s, the companyââ¬â¢ management level decide to focus on a business strategy of transferring the company into low cost distributor to increase competitive advantage and also provide differentiated services to different target customers.Based on the supply chain analysis that had been developed by the company, it was decided that an ERP system would provide a perfect solution for FoxMeyer to achieve the companyââ¬â¢s objectives and goals. Inà 1992, the company had decided to hire Arthur Andersen consulting company to implement the SA P (R/3).The implementation of SAP In September 1993, FoxMeyer had contracted with SAP, Anderson Consulting and Arthur Andersen & Co. to implement the R/3 software. This multi-million dollar project had covered the entire supply chain and was the first information system launched in the pharmaceutical industry that utilized extensive technology coupled with automation of warehouse functions. In the end, the system didnââ¬â¢t provide expected result and the performance was unacceptable. It was completed late, failed to deliver expected benefits and went over budget due to huge expenditures for new computers, software and new warehouse. In 1996, FoxMeyer was forced to file for bankruptcy and was taken over by its largest competitor ââ¬â McKesson Corp for only US$80m.In 1998, the bankruptcy trustee of FoxMeyer launched 2 lawsuits against SAP and Andersen Consulting. FoxMeyer charged SAP with fraud, negligence and breach of contract for convince them to invest in a system that fai led to achieve the companyââ¬â¢s objective which leads to the bankruptcy of FoxMeyer while Anderson Consulting was charged with negligence and breach of contract for failing to properly manage the implementation but both defendants denied the allegations and blamed FoxMeyer for mismanagement.Reasons why FoxMeyer faced failure of ERP system There are many reasons why FoxMeyer faced failure in the ERP system which should assist the company to achieve goal and some of the reasons are same with the issues which were the reasons that lead to Craven Books information system disaster too.The reasons that lead to FoxMeyerââ¬â¢s ERP failure are: 1. Poor selection of the software ââ¬â SAP R/3 was originally developed and designed for the purpose to business such as manufacturing companies and not for business such as wholesaler, especially those doing large number of transactions.This software has never been used for wholesale distributor before because this software lacked many req uirements needed for successfulà wholesale distribution. SAP R/3 was inflexible software, it required many time and a large amount of financial investment if it require any modification and this software was unable to handle large number of orders. These weaknesses were the reason why this software was not suitable to FoxMeyer because this company handled orders from thousands of pharmacies and each of pharmacy had hundreds of items.2. Lack of contingency planning ââ¬â FoxMeyer didnââ¬â¢t prepare any contingency planning to deal with the changes in the business operations. For example, one of FoxMeyerââ¬â¢s major client which was accounted for more than 15% of FoxMeyerââ¬â¢s business, declared bankruptcy shortly after FoxMeyerââ¬â¢s launched the ERP system.3. No end user involvement ââ¬â The implementation of this ERP system was done using a top-down approach. The planning was performed by FoxMeyerââ¬â¢s upper management, Andersen Consulting and few technica l people. Only a few end users were participated in the planning, analysis and design process. In the end, there was a communication gap between the end users and the system planners.4. No restructuring the business process was done ââ¬â SAP was not fully integrated and worked effective because FoxMeyer was incapable to reengineering their business processes in order to make the software to work more efficient.5. Lack of system testing ââ¬â Due to the reason of rushed schedule, some modules testing was skipped. Other than that, the system was not properly tested to detect any problems when the system handling large amount of orders. There wasnââ¬â¢t enough testing and lack of time to modify or debug the system to ensure its functionality.6. Over-ambitious project scope ââ¬â FoxMeyerââ¬â¢s project team members and information system staff were unfamiliar with the system hardware, system software and application software. In the end, the project scope was enlarged wi th simultaneous implementation of computerized warehouse project.à Other than that, some technical issues on complication were not managed properly by the staff and this incurred extra expenditures and time.7. Poor management support ââ¬â At first, the management level were supportive and committed to the implementation of ERP system but once the implementation started, management were unwilling to acknowledge any system problems. Furthermore, management failed to identify the timeliness and resources needed in the implementation process.Recommendations According to the case of FoxMeyer, the case is very similar with Craven Booksââ¬â¢ case especially in the reasons that both company canââ¬â¢t identify suitable software for company and insufficient of preparations or pre-activities before the implementation new system. In order to eliminate and cope the issues, Craven Books should follow these recommendations before the implementation of new system.1. Software selection à ¢â¬â A project steering committee should be created and should involve high level of expertise, both technical and operational in the software selection process. They should do some research in different software, compare and assess their pros and cons to identify the suitable software which best fit the business needs.2. Contingency plan ââ¬â A contingency plan should be develop to handle the situation when the system failure. Stipulate clearly the roll back procedures or develop new contingency plans to prepare for the breakdown of any system modules and for the total new system.3. Stakeholdersââ¬â¢ involvement ââ¬â Any new project implementation should get the involvement of all stakeholders which also include end users and customers of the company. All related parties should understand the purpose of the project and voice out their opinion especially in the earlier stage when any critical issues are just evolving.4. Thorough testing ââ¬â An organized comprehens ive testing plan should be develop, encourage user participation in the testing process and make sure proper testing situations are done to the new system.5. Realistic project scope ââ¬â Project scope should not be over-ambitious, it should be clearly identified with realistic targets.6. End user support ââ¬â All employees and end users should be well trained to handle the new system. Response and address to the end usersââ¬â¢ concern to reduce any negative feelings to the new systems. Identify the need of any changes on agents and create a high and positive morale to meet the new challenges.7. Post implementation review ââ¬â Quality assurance and control programs should be develop to ensure the system checks are done. Develop business metrics to measure and compare the projectââ¬â¢s estimated results with projectââ¬â¢s actual result that have been achieved. Prepare an evaluation report and pass to stakeholders to review the results.Issue 2 The second issues are that the company relied too much on their consultants and suppliers who provide the system. This could be issues for Craven because they did not review the system, all the procedure just follows the consultantââ¬â¢s suggestion, they did not test the efficiency and the effectiveness of the system before it implemented.The consultantââ¬â¢s suggested Craven to go for an existing system, the suggestion for Cravenââ¬â¢s purpose was a bad choice, and itââ¬â¢s like putting a third wing on a jumbo jet. Craven did not do any reference check to the consultant; they just hired the consultant and just rely on the consultant to do the implementation of the new system for the company.Consultant is playing an important role when a company wants to implement a new system. The consultant responsible for the whole systems, to provide the software solutions and other recommen dations based on the assessment. Consultant do give advice, but they frequently also perform tasks thatà result from that advice. The company will face cost overruns, over budget and project delay due to the poor project management by the consultant. In innovation circles this means they have never been managed a team of people, never prototyped an idea, never filed a patent, never taken creative risks, so instead o f banking on their experience, or even their knowledge of the experience of others, they make stuff up, there is an issues arise from that.Recommendation There is no one to blame with this implementation, the company should cancel the whole project and kick out the consultant. For the implementation of the new system, Craven should seek a qualified and experienced consultant butà not just book knowledge. A good consultant has valuable experience in one or more areas of specialty, and they can use this experience for the company advantages. A. Paper Jam If a Kyocera printer has been properly maintained, most paper jam problems are directly related to the paper that is being used. Although this is never the answer anyone wants to hear, it is the most overlooked component and the simplest to remedy. If persistent jamming is the problem, the first test would be to remove all of the paper in the printer and replace it with paper from a new ream, or of a different manufacturer.Check the label on the new package of paper to verify the paper meets Kyocera's specifications. Grain structure is very important. Short grain paper will cause frequent jams. Always use long grain paper. Most paper is manufactured to have a top side and a bottom side. This has something to do with grain structure and the natural curl of paper. Try flipping the supply of paper over. This will test the ââ¬Å"curlâ⬠in case the paper was put into the printer upside-down. If all of these methods do not alleviate the problem, the problem is probably mechanical.Refer to the remaining questions on paper jamming. First check the paper and shuffle it properly. Second if the paper is stock inside the printer. Easily open the printer tray and remove the specific paper that is jammed. B. Blurred Letters Check if there still a toner, remove the drum and shake it and you will know if itââ¬â¢s empty or not. Check also at the report from the printer and print the status page. C. Poor print quality Check the drum if itââ¬â¢s dirty or thereââ¬â¢s something in there. If the drum is dirty clean it. Check also the printersââ¬â¢ charger; if itââ¬â¢s dirty clean it. D.Thereââ¬â¢s a line on the text Check first the drum of the printer; it its dirty clean it. Check the Fuser Kit if it does have a scratch or have a defect you must change it. E. One of the ways, in which harmony is revealed in this mural, is through the quasi-symmetry, which is intentionally applied through the use of curves and angles. In the first panel, harmony is achieved through the use of color. The opposing forces of light and darkness seem to meet at the center with a flourish. While the right side of the panel can seem static, the left side of the panel implies movement through the use of harmony. In the second panel, the lines present almost always end in straight angles, while the curves seem to disappear behind these angles. It is harmonious because curves disappear and angles emerge. In the left and right sides of the second panel, the angular shapes are dominant, while the curves take over at the center of the panel. In this panel, light and darkness have shifted sides in comparison with the first panel, and once again they meet at the center; this time duplicating the flourish at the center with fire. In the first panel, the shapes are inorganic. While the left side seems structured, the right side appears to be chaotic. In the second panel, organic forms, such as the workers, contrast with the geometric shapes represented by tubes, piping, rails, and rigs. Answer to Common Hot Ice Questions Several of you have written in asking for help with your homemade hot ice or sodium acetate. Here are the answers to the most common hot ice questions as well as advice on how to fix the usual problems making hot ice. What Is hot ice? Hot ice is a common name for sodium acetate trihydrate. How Do I Make Hot Ice? You can make hot ice yourself from baking soda and clear vinegar. Ive got written instructions and a video tutorial to show you how to do it. In the lab, you could make hot ice from sodium bicarbonate and weak acetic acid (1 L 6% acetic acid, 84 grams sodium bicarbonate) or from acetic acid and sodium hydroxide (dangerous! 60 ml water, 60 ml glacial acetic acid, 40 g sodium hydroxide). The mixture is boiled down and prepared the same as the homemade version. You can also buy sodium acetate (or sodium acetate anhydrous) and sodium acetate trihydrate. Sodium acetate trihydrate can be melted and used as-is. Convert sodium acetate anhydrous to sodium acetate trihydrate by dissolving it in water and cooking it down to remove the excess water. Can I Substitute Baking Powder for the Baking Soda? No. Baking powder contains other chemicals which would act as impurities in this procedure and prevent the hot ice from working. Can I Use Another Type of Vinegar? No. There are impurities in other types of vinegar which would prevent the hot ice from crystallizing. You could use dilute acetic acid instead of vinegar. I Cant Get the Hot Ice to Solidify. What Can I Do? You dont have to start from scratch! Take your failed hot ice solution (wont solidify or else is mushy) and add some vinegar to it. Heat the hot ice solution until the crystal skin forms, immediately remove it from heat, cool it at least down to room temperature, and initiate crystallization by adding a small quantity of the crystals that formed on the side of your pan (sodium acetate anhydrous). Another way to initiate crystallization is to add a small amount of baking soda, but if you do that you will contaminate your hot ice with sodium bicarbonate. Its still a handy way to cause crystallization if you dont have any sodium acetate crystals handy, plus you can remedy the contamination by adding a small volume of vinegar afterward. Can I Re-Use the Hot Ice? Yes, you can re-use hot ice. You can melt it on the stove to use it again or you can microwave the hot ice. Can I Eat Hot Ice? Technically you can, but I wouldnt recommend it. It is not toxic, but it is not edible. You Show Glass and Metal Containers. Can I Use Plastic? Yes, you can. I used metal and glass because I melted the hot ice on the stove. You could melt the hot ice in a microwave using a plastic container. Are Containers Used to Make Hot Ice Safe to Use for Food? Yes. Wash the containers and they will be perfectly safe to use for food. My Hot Ice Is Yellow or Brown. How Do I Get Clear/White Hot Ice? Yellow or brown hot ice works... it just doesnt look that much like ice. The discoloration has two causes. One is overheating your hot ice solution. You can prevent this type of discoloration by lowering the temperature when you heated the hot ice to remove the excess water. The other cause of discoloration is the presence of impurities. Improving the quality of your baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and acetic acid (from the vinegar) will help prevent discoloration. I made my hot ice using the least expensive baking soda and vinegar I could buy and managed to get white hot ice, but only after I lowered my heating temperature, so its possible to get decent purity with kitchen ingredients.

VLADIMIR: We are happy. ESTRAGON: We are happy. (Silence.) What do we do now, now that we are happy? VLADIMIR: Wait for Godot. (Estragon groans. Silence.) Things have changed here since yesterday. ESTRAGON: And if he doesnt come? VLADIMIR: (after a moment of bewilderment). Well see when the time comes. (Pause.) Their words are as empty and futile as their actions. There is a silence after they say that theyââ¬â¢re ââ¬Å"happyâ⬠which makes it apparent that they are just forcing the emotion on to themselves. The silence allows the audience to inquire if they really are happy and if their happiness is of value. Being happy doesnââ¬â¢t provide a function in life; Estragon wants to ââ¬Ëdoââ¬â¢ something now that they were supposedly happy. To ââ¬Ëdoââ¬â¢ something constructive is important to pass the time; the closest they can get to a functional action is to talk to each other. Having a purpose in life is probable to come with the emotion of happiness, since Estragon and Vladimir have convinced themselves to believe they encompass a purpose in life, they require the emotion of happiness to validate it. Rather than just telling Vladimir to ââ¬Ëdoââ¬â¢ something as they were ââ¬Å"happyâ⬠, he asks him which is a technique to create conversation. The characters have blind faith in Godot, they donââ¬â¢t know what would happen if he didnââ¬â¢t come. Vladimir is bewildered when he comes to the moment of reality of contemplating that this being true would make their wait purposeless. He doesnââ¬â¢t want to admit that if Godot didnââ¬â¢t come then their long wait would have been for nothing, instead he says ââ¬Å"Weââ¬â¢ll see when the time comesâ⬠. This is a meaningless statement because if Godot never does come then the time will never come. However, Vladimir shows indication of acknowledging this when he starts talking about ââ¬Ëchangeââ¬â¢ which is not only changing the subject but also implying that change in something proves that time is passing and that time will soon come. Moreover, towards the end of the extract when Estragon asks ââ¬Å"What do we do now?â⬠and Vladimir replies ââ¬Å"Wait for Godotâ⬠. He ends the sentence there because he doesnââ¬â¢t know what would happen after h e did come and where their lives would lead. They show no reason to wait for Godot which highlights again the purposelessness of their lives. As Vladimir and Estragon are waiting, it is vital for time to pass and the thing to establish this is for things to change. VLADIMIR:â⬠¦I was saying that things have changed here since yesterday. ESTRAGON; Everything oozes. VLADIMIR: Look at the tree ESTRAGON: itââ¬â¢s never the same pus from one second to the next VLADIMIR: The tree, look at the tree. The characters do not really have a conversation which follows in a logical pattern; they often misinterpret each other. Although the two pass their time, they pass it in ââ¬Ëuseless banterââ¬â¢ which is meaningless and gives their life no purpose. Estragon occasionally drifts off with his own thoughts but Vladimir brings him back to his. They both have their own ideas on change, Vladimir refers to the tree to prove that things have ââ¬Å"changedâ⬠while Estragon notices ââ¬Ëpusââ¬â¢ changing, even though theyââ¬â¢re in their own individual worlds they both perceive a significance in ââ¬Ëchangeââ¬â¢. Change is essential to them because they want assurance they have passed the time, and the only way to do so is to see change in their surroundings; change would also initiate some form of purpose. However, their dialogue in general dwells on their past and present which suggests that they are trapped in their current situation. The tree in the landscape helps illustrate a purpose because it is changing, it has to be changing for a purpose; Vladimir sees it as a sign of hope. There is only one tree rather than lots, this makes the landscape seem dull and gives a boring imagery. It is a symbol of life and contrasts with the bleak lifeless environment itââ¬â¢s in. Recognition comes conjointly with memory which Estragon doesnââ¬â¢t have. Estragon doesnââ¬â¢t find that there is any point in recognizing things. He says ââ¬Å"what is there to recognize?â⬠. Estragon lacks memory which is why he gets frustrated. He distinguishes physical things which he receives like Lucky kicking him and Pozzo giving him a bone. These things make a difference to Estragon which is why he remembers it. He realizes that he had just ââ¬Å"crawled about in the mudâ⬠all his life which entails that he only recognizes the purposelessness of his life and the meaning it lacks. It is a commonly established idea that oneââ¬â¢s experiences define a person. Vladimir says ââ¬Å"Heââ¬â¢s forgotten everything!â⬠with regards to Estragon. Memory is important to them because what they went through yesterday was an accomplishment for them, if they canââ¬â¢t remember it then it is worthless. If Estragon canââ¬â¢t remember then Vladimir has no one to reminisce their achievement with, however reminding Estragon and describing it to him gives them something to talk about and passes the time. Since they both lack memory of most of their experiences, their individuality is unclear. Vladimir tries to compare the difference of their current landscape to the ââ¬Å"Macon countryâ⬠but Estragon fails to remember it, and derides at the word and states that he spent all his life in their current location, the ââ¬Å"Cackon countryâ⬠. The sound of the word is harsh and he says it as if it is meaningless to him even though that is where he is ââ¬ËWa iting for Godotââ¬â¢, the place where they are establishing their decided purpose of life. Silences and pauses are uses to transport the meaning to the audience or reader; during the short intervals they realize the meaningless conversation Vladimir and Estragon indulge in. The two begin describing ââ¬Å"All the dead voicesâ⬠which ââ¬Å"murmurâ⬠, ââ¬Å"rustleâ⬠, ââ¬Å"whisperâ⬠and ââ¬Å"make a noise like feathersâ⬠. The silences are disseminated and their dialogues after each of the silences are repetitive which is parallel to their nearly reiterated everyday routine and dialogues. The silent and empty stage is filled with the sound of the ââ¬Ëdead voicesââ¬â¢; viewers are made to imagine the voices as Vladimir and Estragon describe them using similes. The dead voices contribute to the tedious mood of their lives; they argue over trivial things which is parallel to their depressed condition because they are too weak to make it better. The voices reflect the situation of the two characters, they murmur, rustle, whisper in their actions while they wait for Godot. Repetition of the dialogues conveys the forgetfulness of Vladimir and Estragon and their pointless lives. The extract begins with the characters speaking in ââ¬Ëuseless banterââ¬â¢ but as it nears towards the end of the extract, Vladimir and Estragonââ¬â¢s speech lessens and becomes quieter as they run out of things to say. This illustrates their life cycle, the beginning is a bustle of activity as they were younger and searching for a purpose and meaning for life, they did things like ââ¬Å"pick grapes for a manâ⬠and go to ââ¬Å"the Macon countryâ⬠; but as they grow older, energy and enthusiasm decreases as they discover no purpose. Vladimir panics after the ââ¬Å"Long silenceâ⬠, because he doesnââ¬â¢t want to think of the reality of their situation; talking and actions distract their attention from reflection. Vladimir tells Estragon to ââ¬Å"Say anything at all!â⬠in ââ¬Å"anguishâ⬠, he suffers a mental despair or distress if nothing is said or done because then he will apprehend the reality of their meaningless wait. It is as if their terrible actuality is in his subconscious mind which he keeps on pushing away. Estragon further confirms that the reason for their ââ¬Ëuseless banterââ¬â¢ is so they wonââ¬â¢t ââ¬Å"thinkâ⬠; language is utilized to neglect silence. To further emphasise their reiterated life, when they run out of things to say, they remind themselves of their purpose of their existence and the reason behind their endless wait which is to ââ¬Å"Wait for Godotâ⬠.

We have now put the celebrities on a pedestal that is on the same or even a higher level than that of our leaders. Simply put, we treat them as the modern day gods. This phenomenon can be seen where in Twitter; Justin Bieber has a lot more followers compared to Barack Obama. (Mell) in his article discusses that it is noticeable that todayââ¬â¢s headlines often revolve around celebrity news than other types of news. The quantities of entertainment magazine such as Us Weekly are noticeably a lot more than any other types of magazine. Generation Yââ¬â¢s obsession over celebrities baffles the Generation X simply because they are wondering why are stars and celebrities are so popular. The study showed that people just need something to talk about and that it is a basic human desire to connect and find common ground with others. That person can be a socialite, a famous spokesperson, a radio deejay and many more. For example, Paris Hilton is a celebrity because she is famous for her luxurious lifestyle. Meanwhile according to (Dictionary.com) a star is someone who excels in their respective field and has an added charm to them or what we call as charisma. The combination of excellence in their respective field and their charisma is what makes stars stand out from the rest. An example of a star is Sandra Bullock; she is an award winning actress ââ¬â she won an Oscar for Best Actress in 2010 because she possesses an excellent acting skill plus she has charisma. With the rising demand for more entertainment shows, reality TV shows are created to fulfil the said need thus a new term are coined for its stars. Reality TV shows stars are called media personality. According to (Urban Dictionary), media personality is celebrities that lack in natural presentation talent. For instance, Kim Kardashian falls under the media personality category simply because she got no real talent. Stars are worth millions or more in the entertainment industry. A star worth is based on their characteristics and personality. A star will worth more if they possessed good norms and ethics and of course a star worth more if they have credible skills in the field that they went into. For example, Cristiano Ronaldo, a famous football player in the world, is beating Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique. He gets the highest paid salary estimated around $21 million every year (Kornowski). Beside Cristiano Ronaldo, there are still a number of famous celebrities who got paid the same or more amount as he is. One of them is Jennifer Lawrence. According to the (The Inquisitr News) Jennifer Lawrence was the most bankable star of 2013. Based on Hollywood Stock Exchange, it claims that at first the market value displayed of Jennifer Lawrence in last September is at $125.49 per scene and currently, her market value has significantly increase to $147.83 per scene (Perez). Stars are easy to rose to fame and fade away from it ââ¬â they tend to become expandable. Thus, stars like film stars need to be worried if they want to remain Hollywood worthy. This is because they need to use their ability and profession to stay bankable. According to The Hollywood Reporterââ¬â¢s author S. Galloway, stars have more pressure to be the first pick for studios because unless they have an impressive box-office record, they cannot demand and negotiate more about clauses that is in their co ntract (Kiisel). In addition to that, people will judge the stars on how do they look, how do they dress themselves and how do they carry themselves. It means that, looks and appearance is very important for a star to gain popularity. An article by (Kornowski) stated that less attractive stars get paid less whereas good looking stars are paid handsomely. If we notice the current trend of how stars look is that almost all the star is good looking and they have a nice body shape which is slim and muscular. Many believe that if a star or celebrity stays out of the media, they could be unrecognizable and someone might steal their spotlight. An article by the (Urban Times) stated that ââ¬Å"There are even rumours that celebrities themselves asked their public relations team to alert paparazzi to their locations in ensuring maximum coverage. In some ways it is win-win for both parties; itââ¬â¢s certainly a complicated relationship.â⬠Meanwhile, in a written article by (Anderson) said that ââ¬Å"the stakeouts and high-speed chases that the paparazzi are notorious for sound horrible, but if people didnââ¬â¢t read the magazines or didnt care so much about the celebrities, there wouldnt be a demand, and the paparazzi may disappear.â⬠In this era where the World Wide Web creates a ââ¬Ëlimitlessââ¬â¢ kind of world where information is literally at the tip of your finger celebrities are seen to be centre of it. The internet provides an easy and perfect platform for celebrities to further spread their fame and thus cemented their status in the public eye. From what we gather is that the society put celebrityââ¬â¢s life as benchmark for what a good life should look like ââ¬â celebrities are put on a pedestal and they are our modern day god. Other than that, we learn about what makes a star bankable ââ¬â their good looks. Also we look into the fascinating relationship between the stars and paparazzi where we can conclude that it is a win- win situation for both party but there are some boundaries to be obey because now the paparazzi does not only portrays the star alone but also they are lurking about the starââ¬â¢s family. An article by (Schaefer) discusses about ââ¬Å"a bill aimed to protects the children of celebrities and public staff officials from paparazzi.â⬠This bill basically protects the childââ¬â¢s star from any form of harassment including photographing or recording that child without parental consent. In a support to help this bill to be passed, actress Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner both testify in front of the legislative committee. Berry in her statement said ââ¬Å"They ask my daughter questions that are inappropriate for a 5-year-old to have an answer.â⬠While fellow actress Jennifer Garner states that ââ¬Å"she made the decision to have a public life when she chose her career (acting), but her children are private citizens, just like anyone elses.â⬠This bill clearly creates a strain in this star-paparazzi relationship with the newspaper publishers are among those who oppose the bill stating that it would violate on the journalistsââ¬â¢ ability to do their job s. With all of this fame that the stars garnered over the years we cannot stop to but to wonder that with fame come great consequences. Julia Roberts once said that ââ¬Å"I dont think I realized that the cost of fame is that its open season on every moment of your life.â⬠This simply portrays that once you are famous your life are owned by the public or so to speak.
